Accelerated Reader Testing

 Link to AR Forms

Accelerated Reader (AR) is an assessment tool that provides a summary and analysis of results to aid in the monitoring of both the quantity and quality of reading practice engaged in by the children.  Each AR book is assigned a point value based on the number of words it contains and its reading difficulty.  After reading a book, the child will take a multiple-choice comprehension test on the book’s content. Tests in first grade typically have between 5 to 10 questions, depending on the length and difficulty of the book. The computer scores the test, awards the student points based on the results, and keeps a complete record.

This program allows children to select their own books and read at their own pace.  These books may be checked out from the Linton Hall library, a Public library or they may be books that the child has at home.  Children may only take one test per day.  They may read and test on books at levels between 0.9 and 3.0 and must maintain a 75% comprehension average.

Children, who wish to read a higher level book and take an AR test, may do so but must first receive permission from the teacher and then maintain a 90% or higher comprehension average on these books.  Any child who is testing above 3.0 should have read the entire book themselves.

The first grade AR book list may be found under the students tab on the Linton Hall main web page.  Each quarter a child is required to earn a specific number of AR points.  The points required for first grade are listed below:

Accelerated Reading Requirements:

1st quarter – 3 points

2nd quarter – 3 points

3rd quarter – 4 points

4th quarter – 5 points
