Practice Requirements
In an effort to make rehearsals fun and productive we ask that all Corps members practice a minimum of 25 minutes a day 4 days a week. This will enable us to teach new material more frequently and spend less time in rehearsal reviewing fundamentals. The kids love to learn new songs. Parents please help us to ensure that all Corps members are practicing.
Making Practice Fun
- Practice anywhere – on your bed, on the sofa in the car, at grandma’s. It really doesn’t matter as long as you practice.
- A few minutes here and there- it’s ok to break it up into 5 minutes here and 10 minutes there.
- Make it a game - Ask your drummer fifer to play a sequence of rudiments/notes and then see how many he/she can play in 10 seconds, 30 seconds, etc. Ask your Fifer to play part of a song and see if you can guess what it is.
- Make it a performance – Have a seat on the sofa and ask your fifer/drummer to show you what he/she has learned.
THE PRACTICE CONTEST!!! Each Corps member will be given a practice chart that should be brought to every rehearsal. We ask that parents initial this chart each week. We will be having a contest to see who can have the most weeks with completed practice so please make sure that you complete this form! Need another practice chart ? click here.
Practice Tracker
Each Corps member should keep track of his/her practice time and bring the practice tracker to rehearsal each Wednesday. Parents must sign off on the practice tracker each week.
